Is CBN legal in Ireland?

Situación formal

Across the EU, cannabinoid extracts including CBN are classified as unauthorised novel foods under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283, and no Union list authorisation exists in any member state.

In Ireland that food-law question is beside the point, because cannabinol is a controlled drug in its own right. The Schedule to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 names cannabinol, except where contained in cannabis or cannabis resin, and cannabinol derivatives, and extends control to any preparation or product containing any proportion of them. Both entries sit in Ireland's strictest control schedule. The regulations provide that a person shall not produce a controlled drug, supply or offer to supply one, or import or export one, and the Act's enabling power is expressly for prohibiting absolutely the importation of controlled drugs. Contravention carries up to fourteen years on indictment, and possession for sale or supply carries up to life.

There is no exempt-product route for cannabinoids anywhere in the Irish instruments. Neither the exempt-products schedule nor the separate exemption order contains a cannabinoid entry, and the only cannabis carve-out requires an authorised medicinal product delivered through a metered-dose mucosal mouth spray.

No.

No, we do not ship to Ireland, and we do not expect that to change soon.

Irish law treats cannabinol as a controlled drug in its own right, under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977, and extends that to any product containing any proportion of it. There is no threshold to comply with and no exemption for food supplements - the Irish courts confirmed as much in 2024 and again on appeal in 2025.

Our Sleep formula contains cannabinol as a declared active ingredient, so there is no version of it we could lawfully send to an Irish address. We would rather say that plainly than quietly leave Ireland off a list.

Perspectivas

The Irish position is settled rather than shifting. The High Court upheld it in 2024 and the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal in late 2025, refusing to refer the question to the Court of Justice, and the Department of Health has continued to legislate in this area as recently as July 2025.

A change would most plausibly come from the EU rather than from Dublin - an authorisation on the Union list for cannabinoid novel foods, or an EU-level challenge to the Irish reading - and neither is close. We do not expect to be able to ship to Ireland in the foreseeable future.
