JAZMP decision no. 143-27/2011-8 classifies the product "Melatonin 1 mg — 60 kapsul" as a medicinal product — an individual classification decision at exactly 1 mg per daily dose, in capsule form. Recorded in the NIJZ expert opinion on the safety of melatonin in foods of 3 August 2012; the decision itself is not published.
NIJZ — Strokovno mnenje glede varnosti hormona melatonina v živilih (3 August 2012)JAZMP's expert opinion no. 143-10/2019 states that a significant effect on physiological function is achieved at doses of 0.5 mg melatonin or more, so products at that dose meet the definition of a medicine by composition. JAZMP's borderline-classification guidelines (July 2022 version, issued under article 7(2) ZZdr-2) set the limiting daily dose for food supplements at 0.44 mg, citing this opinion; the October 2014 version of the same guidelines had listed melatonin at 0 mg.
JAZMP — Posodobljeno strokovno mnenje glede hormona melatoninaZIRS publishes a consumer warning against the food supplement "Melatonin Forte+" (brand CvetNarave), supplied by Lymus s.r.o., Mierova 29, Bratislava, Slovakia, and sold to Slovenian consumers online, stating that the product's melatonin content (5 mg) is too high and may pose a risk to consumers' health. The measure was a consumer warning only - no recall order, no fine and no seizure followed against the foreign supplier.
Zdravstveni inšpektorat RS — Nevarni in neskladni izdelkiZIRS publishes a notice on fraudulent practices in the online sale of CvetNarave and KonopljinCvet food supplements to Slovenian consumers, naming Embro s.r.o., Lymus s.r.o. and Jomlu s.r.o. (all Bratislava), and records that these companies avoid official oversight by never registering their activity with the competent authority - when one is closed down, a new one opens and the same activity continues. The response was to add the websites to the risky-sites list and advise consumers against purchase. ZIRS's annual reports record that where an online seller can't be identified, inspectorate action simply isn't possible in such cases.
